Dry skin and dehydrated skin may sound like twin problems, but they're not. Dry skin is a skin type, while dehydrated skin is a state of the skin caused by external factors like the environment, diet, and caffeine.
So, what's the difference? Dry skin is thirsty for oil, leading to flaky bits and tightness. Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, is parched for water, which causes fine lines and a dull look. Wondering which one you're dealing with? Check for signs. Tightness and itchiness point to dry skin, while dullness and dark circles suggest dehydration. To keep your skin plump and happy, hydration is key. Pinch a small area of your skin to check its hydration level. The longer it takes to snap back to shape, the thirstier your skin is. Remember, there are two different approaches to happy skin: hydrating and moisturising. If dehydration is your issue, hydrators like hyaluronic acid serum are your skin's BFF. If dry skin is your foe, moisturisers like vitamin B, C & E are your best bet. This time of year when the temperature starts to fall outside and heating starts to come on inside my skin definitely needs a bit of TLC and my foundation is normally one of the first things I change. Here are a couple of my favourites for dry or dehydrated skin that really give my face a dewy look and also contain SPF, which is important even during the autumn/winter season. IT Cosmetics https://www.boots.com/it-cosmetics-your-skin-but-better-CC-spf-50-10251002 also available in a ‘Nude Glow’ version which is more of a lightweight tint for those wanting less coverage. Mii Cosmetics https://miicosmetics.com/product/absolute-face-base/ this is my favourite and my go to for full coverage without the heavy caked on look. Although described as Matte it’s actual very moisturising in my opinion and lasts all day. You can even benefit from my discount code if you order this. Laura Geller https://www.laurageller.com/collections/foundation/products/quench-n-tint-hydrating-foundation is a new find for me and is fabulous for a lightweight but buildable moisturised base. Works well with concealer and mineral powder. An absolute must in my opinion for very dry/dehydrated and very mature skin or for anyone with quite deep wrinkles
